Background
In 1975, Judge David Gertler and his son, M. H. “Mike” Gertler, founded the law firm of Gertler & Gertler. Louis Gertler joined the law firm in the 1990′s and Josh Gertler joined in 2010. Currently, the work done by the Gertler Law Firm, LLP is among the most prominent in New Orleans in the areas of personal injury, product liability and toxic torts.
Legal Groundbreakers
The Gertler Law Firm has been on the forefront of personal injury lawsuits in Louisiana, representing individuals with asbestosis and mesothelioma claims. They were the first to prosecute silicosis suits and product liability suits against manufacturers of respirators.
When the tobacco industry came under fire, the Gertler Law Firm led the way with a group of Louisiana law firms to secure the unprecedented and groundbreaking judgement which forced tobacco companies to form a cessation program for the residents of Louisiana in the amount of $241 million.

Finalists for the Trial Lawyer of the Year Award in 2005 by Trial Lawyers for Public Justice, Mike and Louis Gertler earned this honor for their role in securing a groundbreaking jury verdict that ordered the tobacco industry to fund a 10-year Louisiana smoking cessation program to the tune of $241 million.
